Where Floyd Lockup Releases Go

The distinction matters. Leaving the lockup does not necessarily mean entering the community. If the Sheriff's Office reports a transport, ask for the receiving custodian and then use that agency's system. For NRVRJ, select Include released inmates in its exact-person search. For a state transfer, use VADOC. Federal or immigration custody calls for the matching federal channel. The court docket can establish bond, dismissal, sentence, or another legal order, yet only the custody agency can confirm when and where physical processing occurred.
Absence from Floyd County Lockup cannot distinguish release from transport because the lockup has no public online roster or historical release list.
Confirm a Floyd Lockup Release
There is no direct web lookup for the Floyd County Lockup. The safe method begins with the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, then follows the answer into the appropriate records system. Use the person's full name, date of birth, and arrest or court date. A broad question such as whether someone is "out" may miss a transport. Ask whether the person was released from local custody or moved, and request the destination if recorded.
- Call the Sheriff's Office and identify the person and date. Ask whether the lockup event ended in direct release or transport.
- If transport went to NRVRJ, use its person search with Include released inmates checked and match identity fields carefully.
- Search the appropriate Floyd court record for the bond, dismissal, sentence, or order that explains the legal action.
- Follow any other named receiving authority through VADOC, VINE, BOP, ICE, or direct agency contact.
- Request the existing booking, release, or transfer record when a phone answer or online entry does not settle the route.

Ask for existing records, not a new explanation. Give the full name, date of birth, date range, and booking number if known. A focused request can seek the admission date and time, releasing facility, release date and time, release disposition or destination if kept, legal authority, nonexempt transfer destination, and routine booking photograph. Ask the custodian to provide all reasonably segregable nonexempt portions when part of a record may be withheld.
The county may refer a request to NRVRJ when the regional authority holds the actual booking or release document. That referral reflects separate custody, not a denial that Floyd deputies made the arrest. Keep the request date and the name of the office that accepted it. If the transfer destination is the key fact, state that point clearly and ask for the transport entry as well as the release record.
Request Floyd Lockup Records
Virginia FOIA section 2.2-3704 supplies the general request framework. Covered Virginia citizens and qualifying Virginia media may ask for public records with reasonable specificity. The custodian may require a name and legal address. Floyd County ordinarily must respond within five working days by producing the record, withholding it with a statutory basis, or explaining that it cannot be found. Practical impossibility can extend the response by no more than seven working days, producing the county's stated five-day or twelve-day structure.

No fixed Floyd County lockup release-record, per-page, or booking-photo fee was supported by the research. Request an advance estimate. State law allows a deposit if the estimated cost exceeds $200. Law-enforcement records can be redacted or withheld in part, and sealed or expunged material cannot be released. A narrow request makes it easier for the custodian to find the right episode and separate releasable portions.

Floyd Lockup Is Short-Term
The Virginia Board of Local and Regional Jails lists the Floyd County Lockup at the Sheriff's courthouse address. Official sources confirm that it exists and is operated locally. They do not publish its capacity, population, custody length, release hours, physical exit point, visitation program, or a web roster. The facility should therefore be described as a local, short-term lockup rather than Floyd County's primary long-term jail.
New River Valley Regional Jail serves the broader custody role and provides the official released-person lookup. A Floyd arrest can thus create records with more than one custodian. The Sheriff's Office may hold arrest, local processing, and transport material. NRVRJ may hold the booking and release episode. The court clerk holds the docket and legal order. Each record answers a different part of the same event.

Floyd Release Records Share Courthouse
Several relevant offices occupy the same courthouse but keep different records. The Sheriff's Office and lockup are in Room 206. Floyd General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Combined Courts use Room 208. Floyd Circuit Court uses Room 200. The short walk between offices does not merge their legal roles.
General District Court handles misdemeanors and the preliminary stages of felony cases. Circuit Court handles felony trials and appeals. Search the statewide court system and contact the proper clerk based on the case. A docket entry may show bond, dismissal, sentence, or future hearings. It does not prove the exact time a deputy released someone or identify every transfer destination. Pair it with the Sheriff's or NRVRJ custody record.
A bond release is still a pending-case event. Personal recognizance, unsecured bond, or secured bond does not mean that the charge was dismissed or a sentence was served. If the court entry and Sheriff's answer seem to conflict, ask each office which event and timestamp its record describes.

No Floyd Lockup Release Feed
The official sweep found no Floyd County Lockup roster, historical person search, last-24-hours list, last-72-hours list, mobile jail app, booking-photo gallery, archive rule, or update schedule. These are documented gaps, not features waiting to be inferred. Social posts from the Sheriff are news and alerts, not a systematic release database.
When the question concerns one named person, use the call, regional-jail search, and court chain. When a durable list or detailed record is truly needed, submit a date-bounded request for existing records. The agency may withhold protected content or explain that another office has custody. A routine adult booking photograph is generally requestable under Virginia Code section 2.2-3706, subject to felony-investigation delay and sealing or expungement restrictions.
A photo or old arrest notice does not show present custody. It also cannot establish whether a person went home or transferred. Current facts should come from the office that made or received the custody entry.
